WHAT I OFFER ~~

The Clarke Rose Method.

My method solves the discrepancy between regular therapy which examines most of the psyche but (often) misses the mark on exploring human sexuality, and sexuality coaching which is paramount but (often) lacking a foundation of psychotherapeutic understanding. Sex is my window into healing people, it is how I maneuver into the crux of someone’s being, to understand the most vulnerable parts that need healing. Sex is often the subject left out of therapy, the one place clients feel like they can’t go with their therapist. I see this as a detriment to therapeutic work- what is healing if not the full self being seen and witnessed, shame be damned

When I started in this field, my work was purely sexological. After 7 years of coaching work, and a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy, I now find that sex is the glue that holds my work together- but the work expands beyond the realm of sex (it must!). Sex is never just about sex. I delve into the client’s relationship to joy, eroticism, desire, sex, bodies, work, family, food, politics, and much, much more... I use sex as theory- I use it to illuminate a world of possibilities the client may not have seen before. Sex skills and life skills are synonyms of each other. I may help a client ask for what they want during a sexual experience, which helps the client feel confident communicating their sexual desires, in addition- they may also feel better equipped to ask for a raise at work. There is a life-changing quality to sexuality work. Who we are in life influences who we are sexually, and vice versa. Sexual empowerment is about knowing when you want to have sex and when you do not. There is power in this.

Each client is different. Sometimes I practice case formulation from a life angle, figuring out what kind of food the client likes, what their relationship is like with rest, with a holistic focus on general wellness, and this helps them create a better sex life. Sometimes we go the other way - focusing on sexual anatomy, understanding desire, or reaching orgasm. And that work spills over into a happier life outside of the bedroom. My method has never felt like this or that, but rather a dance of dialectics, freedom, and authenticity. This work is an excavation of shame, an exploration of desire, and an unapologetic deep dive into joy.

Put simply, while I am a certified sex therapist with a Masters in psychotherapy, I operate as a coach- offering people an exploration into the most vulnerable parts of their being, often including sexuality, relationships, and love of self and other. My coaching work is for those who want to focus on healing, sexuality, and a better understanding of how they relate to themselves, others, and their environment.

How it works

The work can take on a few different structures to best tailor the client’s needs.

For individual clients:

  • 50 minute sessions online.

  • Early intake process, where I get to know you and your story, and we clarify the goals and intentions of our work together.

  • These goals and intentions keep us grounded on the right path, considering sexuality and relationship work can open many doors to different topics.

  • At the end of each session, I offer a journal prompt, an embodied practice, a mindfulness practice, or a recommendation of some kind to be worked on in between sessions. “Homework” is an important distinction in coaching work versus regular therapy. For clients who are extremely busy, we can address homework together in session, but usually clients enjoy having something to work on in between sessions.

In general for couples I offer:

  • 1 hour couples counseling sessions online. These sessions are a mix of counseling in areas such as communication, connection, and relating, and coaching in the areas of sexuality, desire, and eroticism.

  • First I have an individual session with each partner, and then we move forward with couples sessions.

  • I offer practices and tools for couples to use in between sessions.

  • Another model of couples work can be primarily seeing one person in the couple, and bringing in the partner as needed.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This work will feel similar to therapy. However, coaching can take on a more casual, colloquial tone. This is a KEY component to human sexuality work. Talking about sex is highly intimate, and the more traditional, removed, stoic approach of classic psychotherapy would not breed an environment of openness for the topics our work will cover.

Some sessions might feel heavy, as we move through past traumas, or address intense family or relational dynamics. Some sessions will feel fun and exciting as the client moves towards the fullest expression of their being.

Clients may text in between sessions if they: have a question about the homework or the content of a session, want to share a life update, want to share a contemplation or inspired thought, or would like to make a note of something they want to address in our next session.
